Jax & Pearl: 24 Months and Counting
Tuesday, October 18, 2005

After a long week of sh*tty days, petty fights, and stressful planning, Jax and I finally decided where to celebrate our second year anniversary, some place we both haven't been to - Puerto Galera. =)

When we got to White Beach, we looked for a nice room and ended up at Mindorine, quite expensive but it was worth it. It had this Spanish touch with a lot of antique decorations, the bed was just right for Jax (I mean lengthwise), and it was near the beach front. Perfect. Jax even befriended the owner and managed to get us a minor discount.

After settling down and changing into our beach outfits, we had lunch at Peter's. The food was good, authentic Filipino taste and not so pricey. Their beef sinigang was steaming hot when they served it to us. Yummy-ness! It had just the right asim taste which Jax and I both loved. We hardly talked while feasting on it! So anyways, after stuffing our stomachs to our hearts' content, we walked around and familiarized ourselves with the place and people. We agreed most natives there were very polite and accomodating. After a while, there was this manong who kept following us around asking us if we wanted to go snorkeling. So 15 minutes later, we boarded Amigo (the name of manong's boat) and went around 2-3 kilometers to the east where the coral reefs where. I never knew I would appreciate the underwater world that much. Wonderful, wonderful sight.

We spent the rest of the day on the shore, burying ourselves in the white sand, picking up nice stones, staring at the waves, and just talking about us, our childhood memories, dreams, anything and everything. Occasionally, Jax would look for flat stones, bet me how many times it would bounce on the water surface, and throw it to the sea. We were like kids! And it felt all warm and nice inside. It's the kind of feeling I know I will never ever trade for anything else in the world.

Just about the same time that the sun started to set, we went back to our room and got ready for dinner. The setting was perfect at Manalo's. They have tables set for couples at the far end of their resto, complete with candle centerpieces for a more romantic touch. I think the gay waiter/waitress who served us was kind of disappointed though that we didn't order (alcoholic) drinks after the meal. We were just not the type. Instead, we walked barefoot and looked for a spot to just lie down in the sand. Underneath the stars, Jax and Pearl holding hands.. what more could you ask for? We just talked about our relationship, what we hated about each other, how we could improve, and mushy mushy stuff. *wink!* Anyways, the night ended with two ate's giving us a whole body massage.. and them asking us why we didn't have kids yet. Haha.

I woke up the next day with a huge smile on my face. It was the 16th - officially our second year anniversary. Jax and I woke up early to catch the warm sea breeze and have a long walk at the beach front. Then we had breakfast (with banana split!) at Peter's again. Afterwhich, we had the chance to bond under the sun again. Jax even let out his artistic side by making a sand turtle and "carving" our names.

We left Galera with memories that only two of us could ever share. One of the best weekends of my life. I never thought of the words "tired" and "stressed" the whole time! The travel back home was long but we both didn't mind. I can really say that this trip made us even closer to each other, something we promised we'd always have time for every year for the rest of our lives.

We've made it through two long years. I know my love for Jax and his love for me will continue to grow with each passing day. Our relationship may not be perfect and smooth but those imprefections make it all the more worth keeping. Here's to more years of happiness together... 730 days of Jax-Pearl, and counting...

almay here. i'm 25 and act like it when the stars are aligned. i'm currently attached (and loving it!) to the most spoiled big boy in the world aka jax. i'm an augustinian and an iska. i'm not a party person, more of the dinner-coffee type. i miss dancing though (it's been ages!). i'm a self-confessed crybaby and drama queen. i talk a lot, often even in a language only i could understand. recently, i've turned into that boyish kid. i love cars. i like driving, sometimes alone when i want to get away and think. i have a sweet tooth. give me chocolates with almonds and blueberry cheesecake and i'm yours forever.

(someday soon) i'd like to: swim in the pacific ocean. ride a hot air balloon. be (and drive) in a real racing circuit. sing with a band. have a month-long vacation without having to think about work. see the egyptian pyramids. lie in a bed of roses, literally. climb a mountain. have my own butterfly garden. complete my bath and body collection. finish reading the Bible, cover to cover. be in the set of grey's anatomy. go on a totally unplanned road trip. learn three other languages.

"Maybe we're not supposed to be happy. Maybe gratitude has nothing to do with joy. Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human. Maybe we're thankful for the familiar things we know. And maybe we're thankful for the things we'll never know. At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate."
